Enclosed by a serie of mountains, the North of Madagascar remains the region of contrasts where mix the trade winds and the monsoon, the plains of the West and the eastern forests , volcanic earth and rocky peaks, valleys and mountains, great rivers and torrents

 
Situated at the extreme North of the island, the name of the city is the association of the name of the Portuguese Diego Diaz, the first European to touch Madagascar in 1500, and Fernando Suarez, who came six years later .At the 17th century, the city was a nest of pirates, then a French military basis in 1890, from where French launched the offensive to colonize Madagascar . One can admire the magnificent bay of Diego, classified second in the world after Rio of Janiero. It has also its " sugar loaf " as in Rio, visible from the high of the " Montagne des Français " from where we have a splendid view on the city and on the bay . Bathing possibility on the beautiful fine sand beach of Remena , with its clear water, calm and hot all the year. The region, very fertile in fruit and vegetable production, is reputed for its very juicy and fragrant mangoes. The hunting is abundant notably the boars, ducks, blue and green pigeons hunting . The full of fish sea make the happiness of amateurs of deep sea fishing : barracuda, shark, carangue and tuna.

MONTAGNE D’AMBRE
Diego is surrounded by two massive mountains : Tsaratanana (2800m) and the Montagne d'Ambre National Park (1475m). The colonel JOFFRE preferred the Montagne d'Ambre for its agreeable micro-climate during the whole year , 10° to 25° degree , while in DIEGO it makes 30 to 40 ° in the shade , it was the reason why he founded Joffreville , situated on the Montagne d'Ambre . The Montagne d'Ambre is covered with a dense primary forest, classified National Reserves . Made up paths allow to admire palm trees, tree ferns , gigantic baobabs , orchids. The cascade of Roussettes with its 80 m of gradients, the numerous fall water, lakes of crater, enchant the dense forest. Varieties of untamed lemurs populate the forest.

ANKARANA SPECIAL RESERVE
In the Special Reserve of the Ankarana, situated more to the South, the erosion has given place to the formation of impressive limestones with sharpened peaks called" Tsingy ". They contain caves, underground rivers and caverns where live a very specific fauna: the crocodile of the Nile (crocodylus niloticus), endemic birds, such the painted turtledove, and different species of lemurs.

LAC VERT
Beautiful crater lake . You can walk on the tsingy (carefully) admiring the strange succulent plants such as pachypodium which seem to grow right out of the limestone.

NOSY BE
Endowed with an almost perfect climate (sunshine with brief showers) fertile and prosperous with sugarcane plantation , pepper and vanilla for export and the heady scent of ylang ylang blossoms giving it the name of Perfumed Island ,
Nosy Be is Madagascar’s main centre for diving
LOKOBE
Nosy Be’s only protected area. Lepilemurs , black lemurs , boa and chameleons.

Climb up to the top for the view .

Pure white beaches of fine sand along which laps a crystal-clear green/indigo sea . Every rock sparkles with an abundance of coral and marine life.
